Malèna (2000) theatrical poster featuring Monica Bellucci in a sun-drenched Sicilian square with a boy on a bicycle; a nostalgic, evocative Italian period drama vibe.

Malèna

Fascism casts a long shadow over a small Sicilian town as a young boy watches a beautiful widow endure the war.

Italy entered the war in 1940 with severe raw material shortages. The nation imported 80% of its coal and 90% of its oil, leaving its industrial base unprepared for prolonged conflict. These deficits forced the regime to impose strict rationing, triggering a black market that eroded public support.
