Suite Française (2015) film poster featuring a romantic embrace under warplanes above an occupied French village with tanks and soldiers; a high-stakes, sweeping romantic drama vibe.

Suite Française

A forbidden romance links a French woman to the German officer occupying her family home.

Following the June 1940 armistice, Germany imposed daily occupation costs of 400 million francs on France. This financial extraction drained the national economy. By autumn, authorities introduced ration cards, limiting citizens to 1,200 calories daily and forcing families to barter possessions for basic food.
