Von Ryan's Express

Prisoner transport trains hijacked by an Allied colonel provide the only hope for hundreds of men seeking the Swiss border.

Following the late 1943 Italian armistice, Allied prisoners faced transfer to Germany. Around 50,000 POWs escaped their camps as guards abandoned their posts. This sudden influx forced neutral Switzerland to expand its internment system to accommodate more than 10,000 successful evaders.
